[ less than a day after the return from alydhion, ]

Degar. Are you busy?

[ his voice is hushed, gentle. it's up to degar if he really feels like talking; but rand did promise, together with mal, to pass a message along, and he'd like to. and he is worried about degar; how could he not be? ]

[stationmaster]

Always am.

[ his voice sounds ... almost a little too cheerful. ]

Hey, Rand. What's up?

[dragonmount]

[ in truth: he'd probably do the same. ]

I spoke with your friend, [ he says in lieu of are you okay? or i'm so sorry. ] The Great Mulgrowe. He had a message for you, if you'd like to hear it.

[stationmaster]

[ birds of a feather, huh? ]

The GM? Yeah, of course. What did he say?

[dragonmount]

[ maybe it's why he's taken to degar so easily, how easy it's become to care about this man in so short a time.

slowly, he echoes, ]

He said, "Tell him that he will always have a place here if his path turns back to Alydhion again."

[ a beat, and then, ]

He said, "The sun still rises and I remember the songs we used to sing until the fire burned to embers." And that he still hums them, even after all this time.

[stationmaster]

[ there's a moment of quiet that stretches just a little too long. but before rand can prompt degar again, maybe to ask if their connection is still present, or whether the man has simply disappeared, degar exhales. ]

Wow. That's — thanks, Rand.

[ his voice sounds a little thick but he pushes through it. and here he'd thought his old friends would be angry that he'd left them. ]

We did sing some great songs, him and I.

[dragonmount]

[ he doesn't push for a response even as the silence goes on. but he does worry, increasingly, so it's a relief when degar finally speaks. maybe they should've had this conversation in person; but, then again, maybe degar feels better without anyone there to see his expression. ]

Would you sing one for me? One day.

[stationmaster]

Yeah.

[ the answer is much more immediate, and without hesitation.

those songs for him were a time of camaraderie and promise and a reminder of better times. ]
