[ maybe it's why he's taken to degar so easily, how easy it's become to care about this man in so short a time.

slowly, he echoes, ]

He said, "Tell him that he will always have a place here if his path turns back to Alydhion again."

[ a beat, and then, ]

He said, "The sun still rises and I remember the songs we used to sing until the fire burned to embers." And that he still hums them, even after all this time.

[stationmaster]

[ there's a moment of quiet that stretches just a little too long. but before rand can prompt degar again, maybe to ask if their connection is still present, or whether the man has simply disappeared, degar exhales. ]

Wow. That's — thanks, Rand.

[ his voice sounds a little thick but he pushes through it. and here he'd thought his old friends would be angry that he'd left them. ]

We did sing some great songs, him and I.

[ he doesn't push for a response even as the silence goes on. but he does worry, increasingly, so it's a relief when degar finally speaks. maybe they should've had this conversation in person; but, then again, maybe degar feels better without anyone there to see his expression. ]
