[ viveca floats next to bucky, a red light scanning the unconscious bodies of sam and eleven as the face on her screen — a face very familiar to him — frowns with concern. ]

It's the stasis. We're not quite sure why it happens, but sometimes something goes wrong during the teleportation. I'm sure you noticed Tony wasn't on the mission, because something malfunctioned and left him here. This time... I guess what's happened can be described as a temporary coma. Sometimes the orb puts those in coma who have expended too much energy... but sometimes it happens to people who are entirely healthy, otherwise.

But they're fine, and will wake up soon — whether it's in a day, a week or a month... that I can't tell you. Only that they will wake.

[ then, quieter, ] I'm sorry, Bucky. If I could wake them, I would.

[starer]

[He's silent as she scans them both, only reaching back out again once she's done. He may not be able to speak to them. But at least being able to feel Sam's heart beating underneath his fingers and seeing the rise and fall of Eleven's chest, is at least enough to keep him grounded right now.

...though, considering the mission they've just gotten back from-]

Tell me they're not stuck in their memories again.

[Because it hadn't gone well for any of them the last time round.]

They're not.

[ she offers him a sad smile. ]

As far as I know, they should be having a dreamless sleep... when they wake, they might not even know they've been unconscious. We can move them to the infirmary, just to be safe... but I've read that those in stasis might still be able to hear people talking to them. So that might help.

[ she has read that about coma patients... but more than that, she thinks it'll give bucky something to do, a feeling that he's helping somehow. which is just as important. ]

[starer]

[A huff of laughter that escapes him, but it lacks any real amusement. Not when-]

I spent most of my life in cryo. Who're you trying to kid?

[There's more of a bite to his words than he'd otherwise direct towards her. Sure, none of them really know what Viveca's real motivations are. But she's been, well, a friend to him so far. So once he's had time to process it all, to think back on how he's reacting, there'll be an apology coming her way. But with Sam and Eleven laying unconscious, he has bigger priorities right now.]

You said the orbs did this. Is there a way to wake them up?

Being asleep is not the same as cryo. Trust me, I do know that.

No. The Orb wakes them up when it decides to. The only thing you can do is wait... but know that this is likely harder on your than it will be on them.
