// VIVECA
Hi, what can I help you with?
// DEGAR
Today was gonna be the day, but they'll never throw it back to you. And by now, you should've somehow realized what you're not to do.
for degar; audio? action?
I'd like to speak with you about the details of our additional orb acquisition.
up to you 👍
If you know anything more than we do, we're all ears.
let's go with action cause IMPORTANT!!!
We were on the station like we should have been, but it was a version of it from the past. Only Olivia was present, and told us that the team was away on a mission.
Her systems were in a state of corruption by the orbs.
[ He offers only that to start. One thing at a time, and he figures Degar from his lived experience of it all can tell whenabouts this might have been. ]

[ it's still imperative they get these bad boys in with the rest of them, and he gestures with his chin for yzak to follow, glancing back briefly to where viveca and itachi have paused to talk on their own.
it ... also gives him a chance to consider what he's said. you know, on account of it being A Lot. ]
I guess it's not impossible, even if it is unusual. Did she say anything in particular? Anything weird?

[ Even after all this time, the heaviness of the power these orbs exude never feel any less so to Yzak when he's close to them like this. Even after experiencing that power firsthand. He falls into step beside Degar, likewise looking over his shoulder to where he does to Viveca and Itachi. ]
He's probably giving her a heads up about it, too.
[ Forward facing again. ]
But, business first.
It's more that she didn't say certain things. Questions about the orbs were met with short, vague or unhelpful answers, static and interference in our earpieces.
Furthermore, trying to access any files on her system were met with what can only be described as a similar corruption that those files had. It fucked with at least a couple of people pretty badly, but I believe the effects were temporary, much like the ones many of us got hit with while searching for pieces of the orb.
The second orb was broken into even smaller pieces of itself, scattered around the station. Olivia wanted us to gather them as we would any other, and when we did, that's when we returned here.
Like I said, coming into contact with them caused some side-effects. I temporarily lost my eyesight, for example.
But it also did something else, and this is the part you're probably not going to like hearing as much.

but it's yzak's last comment that has him pausing his thoughts, tilting his head to give the young man an inquisitive look.
lightly (because he's already anticipating something ... dire): ]
Oh, boy. Is this the part where you tell me you happened to catch one of us doing something woefully embarrassing? Like, 'immediately put your head in the sand' embarrassing.

But right now the commander in him doesn't allow it to linger, his priorities - and much more important priorities at the moment - are set. ]
We were subject to many of each others' memories, much like we were on our Kilnan mission. But the pieces of the orb ... they showed us various glimpses into you and your team's life on board the Ximilia. Emerton, being chosen as the team's commander. Kaj, and his written records of your missions - which I'm going to ensure we have a full version of our own that covers as much as possible. Other members of the previous team, some more personal, private, and deemed not useful enough to share as a result. And...
Well. For one, we're aware of what happened to Olivia, and then Emerton. And what Emerton did the team under that influence.
no subject
[ he's kidding. honestly.
and the lightness in his tone deflates like a balloon, gradual and weighted with the things yzak says. the names he brings up, names he and viveca barely speak of if they can help it. sometimes it's easier to pretend. ]
Ah. [ he pauses, thoughtful. and then: ] I'm ... sorry you had to see that. But if you're afraid of that happening here and now, with the team we have, I can promise you it won't.

But for now: ]
Between reuniting pieces of the orb and returning here, we saw more. All of us, this time.
Your own, as well as Viveca's decisions, directly following Emerton's death. The aftermath of those choices, too.

[ degar takes a breath ... and lets it out slowly. ]
How much 'more' is more?
no subject
[ These are Degar's own memories, after all. He deserves to know what they all saw. He'd want to know the same, if it were him. ]
...
Viveca was dying. After doing whatever it was she did to ensure Emerton would not be returning to the station. You reunited that final orb with the others, but when it spoke to you, you changed your regret.
“I regret all of the deaths that occurred on our last mission. I want to undo them, every one of them, and I want to send them all back to their homes to the time that they came from. I want them to remember none of it. None of this.”
And for the price of that change, you agreed to give your own - your own time, your own life. [ Yzak's own voice strains some when he speaks of that, the concepts hitting a little too close to home. ] And then Viveca, she made her offer, too.
You both woke up later, realized Viveca was now the station's system, and it was just the two of you there.

[ he seems to fall still. ]
Thanks for telling me, Yzak. Guess I don't really know what else to say.

... They're your memories. So naturally you should know what it is that others now know.
How long has it been? Since you two began your work here and the first of us arrived?
no subject
[ phew! he lets out a low exhale and thankfully doesn't have to say much else (for now) as they enter the north wing together.
yzak will see degar offer the two orbs to join the rest of the glowing bulbs of bright, colourful lights ... not unlike the memory he'd just witnessed as degar had offered the last of the orbs to the greater Orb.
now when he finishes, nothing big happens but the mirrored image might feel different now. heavier, somehow. ]
That's a good question. [ degar looks thoughtful. ] A few months? Give or take?
After ... what you saw, it wasn't like we had our own missions to go on, or any real knowledge of how much time had passed on this station while we worked to fix this place up and recruit you all. It was just me who needed sleep and even then I didn't keep regular hours anymore.

What happened to the Orb after that? If that was the last piece of it, what caused it to shatter all over again?
sorry for the delay! the notification got tragically lost
Well, you said it yourself, the Orb shattered after that. Broke into a bunch of tiny pieces all across the cosmos. It was ... my deal that did it. Kind of undid everything to redo everything, you know?
At least that's how I understand it.
