[A lengthy pause. Felix knows the guy has no reason to respond to that unless Degar wants to fight. For Felix, that would be cathartic. For everyone else, that's just rubbing salt in the wound.
So he has to find something else to say in hope of getting a reaction beyond "fuck off and die." And despite his on and off again consciousness over the past few days Felix does remember the death threat from the not-entirely-an-AI Viveca. This is probably not his finest moment but he's a bit beyond that these days so YOL..T.
His tone sounds more serious when he resumes.]
Do you know why we're here? The individual reasons for each person, I mean. Yes or no, I'm not asking to pry into someone else's business.

If you're talking about your regret — yeah, it'll be in your file. Viv makes sure to have that stuff memorized. [ the way she can put so many facts to memory is truly impressive to him. ] I tend to let people tell me themselves if they feel like it.
[ regardless, it's a small part of the recruitment process and one that degar hasn't always paid much attention to, truthfully. ]

If Degar doesn't know the specifics, too, maybe that does make the rest of what he was going to say "easier," too. It's not a lie... it's not a lie... but he wishes it was.]
I had a partner. For over a decade we had each other's backs. We didn't always get along but we worked so well together. We were survivors. The Great War, all the shitty jobs we took, whatever came our way we survived it.

[Felix stops himself before he can say something stupidly sentimental. Sentiment was just a weakness, an emotion that could be exploited. The only emotion he allows himself left to feel is anger, and the need for revenge. And that's all there's an edge to in his tone when he can't keep it completely level anymore.]
That's why I'm here. It's a shitty reason, but that's why I have to undo my regret.

[ degar thinks on felix's file, recalling any details. a regret is a regret and in the recruitment process they'd seen what he could bring to the table. far be it from him to make any judgments on why he's here.

I don't think you'd have heard of any of my favorite music artists. How can you bond over that when it's all different for everyone?

[It takes great effort for him not to say that with more snark because it's just ripe for the picking, man. But he holds off somehow.]
