he'd just been sneaking away from the kitchens with a (very) strong coffee, which he now keeps hooked in one hand while his free one accepts the flyer.

he gives it a quick scan, his eyebrows rising with every word rita adds on to her pitch. but he smiles widely to reflect hers. ]

Auditions, huh? Well, I can't say I'm much of an actor but this does sound awesome. And it's a really good idea, I don't remember anyone ever putting on a show like this.

grinning now, he gestures to the colourful illustration. ]

Please tell me you drew this.

I figure something to lighten the mood a bit is in order. And who doesn't love a good play? And with the Sunlight Room — perfect conditions for a little Shakespeare in the Park.

[ of course, she doesn't specify that it might be selfishly more with the intent to lighten her own mood, needing something to take charge in and keep herself busy, particularly to keep herself from getting lost in her own head. though it's satisfying, too, if it helps everyone else too.

as he points out the colored drawing, she laughs a little nervously, clearing her throat. ]

I ... did. And, yes, I know — a child could have done a better job. [ though she rolls her eyes, the easygoing self-mockery remains. ] Drawing may not be my strong suit.

Nah, are you kidding? It's great. I mean, look at this little fairy, the detail on the wings!

[ he brushes a finger across the image as though he could endearingly pet the illustrated fairy, very much 'aww, look how cute!' before he chuckles too. ]

Besides, you haven't seen me attempt to draw. I can pick just about any instrument up and figure it out without issue, I'm even pretty good with the lab-tinkering, but ask me to draw something and you'll get stick-figures at best, blobs at most.

[ the fact that he's practically petting the drawing makes her laugh, hand going to her face to cover it bashfully. she knows he's probably just indulging her (or maybe he really is just that easily impressed), but she can't say she hates it. ]

Well, who wouldn't love a little blob drawing? I'd happily hang it on the community fridge.

[ she almost says any drawing of a blob would be an accurate portrait of her, but — no need to talk about that part of herself.

besides, his mention of instrument suddenly sparks an idea. ]

You know — if you aren't interested in acting in it, what do you think about performing the music? I mean, we have fairies dancing in a forest, a romantic play-within-a-play, all kinds of scenes that could use a score, which would sound much better with live music behind it. [ her eyes are lit up, proud of herself for clicking that offer into place as she brings her hands together. ] What do you say? Would you throw in those musical talents of yours for me — [ err— ] us?

[ well he can't say he's not intrigued by the idea, and it'd kind of be the perfect way to play for an audience again.

... man, it's been so long since he's had one of those. ]

Is this gonna be like a band thing?

[ he looks thoughtful, feigning reluctance.

Or more of a solo act?
